A male peacock is a rather selfish bird. Owning a male named Peter and a female, named Petunia, I observed Peter's greed for food to the point of chasing off Petunia during the daily feeding where he would eat until he was full. Peter's additional character flaw included his continuous flouting of his feathers into a ruffling fan shape as soon as he saw someone come toward him, whether human or animal.
In the study of birds, Peter showing his feathers is reasoned to attract a female as a mate. But with Peter, he would sprout his fan when the dog, I or any member of my family, and even the cat were in eye sight of his observant gaze. One sprouted, as you walked by, he would shake his feathers and follow you until you were out of sight. So in my humble opinion, Peter was a show off to a narcissistic level.
One day, I observed Peter staring face to face with my carved wooden bear while working in the yard. I found it humorous and was inspired to take a picture to show others. As I sat on my porch later that day, I looked at the picture on my phone and yelled to my three granddaughters playing in the yard to come sit with me. They all ran and Savannah sat upon my lap, while Presley and Tessa sat on opposite sides of me. I asked them if they would like to hear a story about a Peacock and a Bear? Much to my delight, they cried "yes."
So thus was the birth of a simple story of sharing and finding the true meaning of beauty using God's view on those subjects.
